The SIPROTEC 5 6MD85 Bay Controller Relay is a control and automation device with optional protection function. It is designed for use in all voltage levels from distribution to transmission. As a full member of the SIPROTEC 5 family, it allows the use of a large number of protection functions from the SIPROTEC library with identical parameters like in the protection devices.

The modular hardware design allows users to integrate the required number of I/Os based on their application needs. As a result, the device easily adapts to different substation configurations. Primarily, it functions as a bay controller for medium- and high-voltage switchgear, ensuring reliable control and monitoring. In addition, the device can include an integrated operator panel and key switches as optional features for easier local operation. Moreover, it provides powerful automation functionality, which engineers can configure quickly and efficiently using DIGSI 5 engineering software. Furthermore, the system supports a wide range of protection functions, increasing flexibility in protection and control applications.

The device also offers extensive input and output configurations. For example, it includes five predefined standard variants with 4/4 current and voltage transformers. In addition, it supports 11 to 75 binary inputs and 9 to 41 binary outputs, depending on the configuration. Another advantage is its hardware flexibility. Within the SIPROTEC 5 protection and control system modular concept, users can adjust the hardware I/O quantity to match project requirements. Additionally, adding a second row expansion allows the system to support more than 400 inputs and outputs, making it suitable for complex automation systems.
