The Siemens SIPROTEC 6MD86 Bay Controller serves as a powerful control and automation device with optional protection functions. It is designed for use across all voltage levels, from distribution to transmission systems.

As a full member of the SIPROTEC 5 protection and control system family, it allows engineers to use a wide range of protection functions from the SIPROTEC library. Consequently, users can apply the same parameters used in other SIPROTEC protection devices, which simplifies engineering and integration.

Moreover, the flexible hardware concept enables precise adaptation to different process data requirements. The device primarily functions as a bay controller for medium- and high-voltage switchgear, ensuring reliable control and monitoring within substations.

In addition, the controller can include an integrated operator panel and key switches as optional features. Engineers can also configure powerful automation functions easily using DIGSI 5 engineering software, which simplifies commissioning and system management.

Furthermore, the device offers extensive input and output options. It includes six predefined standard variants with 8/8 current and voltage transformers. Depending on the configuration, the controller supports 11 to 75 binary inputs and 9 to 41 binary outputs.

Another advantage is its high hardware flexibility. The SIPROTEC 5 modular system allows flexible adjustment of the hardware I/O quantity. Additionally, using a second row expansion enables more than 400 inputs and outputs, which supports complex automation applications.
